Clash Of The Titans- An AI Smarkets v Betfair Review 2024
See how technology reviews the two leading software providers in the matched betting industry. Compare user experiences, features, and benefits to make an informed decision for your betting strategy.
This website needed a fresh Smarkets v Betfair review, but I was short on time. So..
Instead of your run of the mill "Betfair v Smarkets Review", which always seem to conclude with no particular recommendation to either provider, this review uses a tool I am using increasingly for work and you will soon in life- AI, specifically Chat GPT4.
Now, I have used Betfair and Smarkets for 8 years. I use Smarkets 90% as I like to have just one main Exchange, and with Smarkets I get the 0% commission deal for being integrated with Oddsmonkey. If you haven't done that yet, you should. However, at times Smarkets have been low on liquidity, or have not even got a lay markey available for some of the more obscure bets. So then I use Betfair.
How can we get a purely objective report on both???
Without revealing the prompts used, the instruction was simple- "read these reviews and summarise all 3". So, using 3 recent and 3 old random "Betfair versus Smarkets" reviews taken from Google, ChatGPT4 produced this review in about 30 seconds. The images it made from its findings took a little longer to refine...
All text in WHITE is pure ChatGPT4, my own words are in black. I added bold where applicable.

Alright, we've got a trio of reviews diving deep into the world of betting exchanges, focusing particularly on the titans of the industry: Betfair and Smarkets. If you're a matched betting enthusiast, a newbie in the betting game, or just someone looking to get the inside scoop on where to place your bets, you've come to the right place. Let's break it down in a more casual, blog-style manner, covering the juicy details and key points from these reviews.
When you're stepping into the world of matched betting, the first big decision is choosing your battleground. Betfair and Smarkets are like the Coke and Pepsi of betting exchanges - both have their die-hard fans and unique flavors. But hey, why settle for one when you can juggle both? Variety is the spice of life, after all.
The Betting Exchange Throwdown..
V
The Heavyweights: Betfair vs. Smarkets
Betfair's the OG of the betting exchange world, launching into the stratosphere way back in 2000. With a customer base that's more like a small country's population, they've been the go-to for bettors worldwide. Smarkets, the tech-savvy newcomer, popped up a decade later and has been giving Betfair a run for its money with its slick interface and competitive commission rates.l.
The Nitty-Gritty: Commission Rates and Market Coverage
Here's where the rubber meets the road. Smarkets is the lean, mean fighting machine with a flat 2% commission rate that leaves more cash in your pocket. Betfair, while starting with a higher standard rate, offers a rewards package that can bring it down to match Smarkets. But, like choosing between a sports car and a luxury sedan, it's not just about the price tag. Betfair flexes its muscles with a wider range of sports and markets, making it the go-to for the more obscure bets.

Tech, Usability, and Reliability
Smarkets wins points for its futuristic tech vibe and user-friendly interface. It's like the Apple of betting exchanges, with intuitive design and innovative features that cater to the tech-savvy bettor. Betfair, though not as sleek, counters with robust reliability and a wealth of experience that ensures it can handle the Super Bowl-sized traffic without breaking a sweat.
The Extras: Liquidity and Welcome Offers
In the liquidity department, Betfair's deep pockets and bustling marketplace ensure you can always find a match for your bet, especially for big events. Smarkets, while not as flush, is no slouch either and has been closing the gap steadily.
Welcome offers? Both platforms throw in some sweet deals to get you started. Whether it's Betfair's cashback promise or Smarkets' low commission honeymoon period, they're both rolling out the red carpet for new users.

The Verdict: Why Choose?
In the grand scheme of things, why limit yourself to one? Having accounts on both Betfair and Smarkets gives you the flexibility to play the field, taking advantage of the best each has to offer. Whether you're laying down a bet on the next big football match or playing the long game with horse racing, it's all about maximizing your profits and enjoying the ride.
So, there you have it – a rundown of the clash of the titans in the betting exchange world. Whether you're team Betfair, team Smarkets, or like us, cheering for both, the world of online betting has never been more exciting or accessible. Happy betting!
So, what do you think about that?!
We have a verdict according to AI, but what do you think?
Let's take a more traditional approach to end this review, with experience and a few human insights. Below are a few straightforward comparisons..
The look and layout of Betfair has not changed in a decade. It still looks and feel clunky to me. However, they have great liquidity across all Premier League games tomorrow (18/2/24), more than Smarkets has, although their layout is much cleaner and easier to navigate. Both are integrated with Oddsmonkey which makes laying bets so much easier and faster. Note- Smarkets integrated calculator with Oddsmonkey ALWAYS picks up the best odds for you at the time of placing, often better odds, and will cancel your lay if it goes above your lay.
Unlike matched betting software provider reviews, there is not much need to delve into particular elements of each exchange for this review. We are not touching Sportsbook, Casino or other sections, in which Betfair clearly dominates as Smarkets offers nothing on casino or games.
Cost and usability are main deciders for me. Betfair at 5% commission versus Smarkets 0%? Clean interface versus cluttered archaic website? For me it's Smarkets, but as I said at the start, without Betfair, there are certain offers you simply cannot lay. So both are necessary.
When we check out liquidity, Betfair Exchange does have better liquidity in general across the markets, but Smarkets has plenty enough.
When laying a bet, the betslip is clear on Smarkets but for me seems tricky to use, particularly in-play when odds are jumping about. That said, Betfair seems to have odds that are not only marginally better but also more stable for that few seconds longer when needing to lay in-play. These better odds offered by Betfair are usually canceled out by their 2%, even 5% commission charge. Even Matchbook and Betdaq are at 0%, but they have fewer markets and liquidity altogether so they don't factor in this review. Watch this space for the next AI-assisted review of Betdaq v Matchbook, as a comparison of the two lesser-used exchanges. Then, I will let ChatGPT AND Google Gemini create an all-around comparison, all 4 exchanges pitted against each other. Join my socials if you want to see how this progresses and for much more information on using tech in Matched Betting, as we move into the future...
So my feelings and review of both services is pretty much the same as ChatGPT deduces using just logic and a combination of subjective opinion.
Did you expect that?
